VortexColliderは、バブルリングと呼ばれる空気の輪によるインスタレーション作品である。バブルリングは、イルカがコミュニケーションや遊ぶことを目的でつくることが知られていて、少しずつ輪を広げながら上昇する様子が特徴的である。本作品ではバブルリングを生成する装置を開発し、生成する位置/タイミングを制御することで表現に取り込んだ。ソレノイドの機械音と共に生成されるバブルリングは、水の流れや気泡と衝突し、その時々の形に変わりながら水面へ昇っていく。水槽の中で、なにかが空気で遊んでいるかのような振る舞いを表現している。
VortexCollider is an installation piece which utilizes bubble rings as a medium. Bubble rings are a rare occurrence in nature, typically created by dolphins for communication and entertainment purposes. In this project, custom apparatus was designed to generate bubble rings using a computational control. The generated bubble rings collide with the flow of water and airbubbles inside the glass case, continuously changing shape while ascending to the surface. Together with the sound of solenoid valvles, the piece provides a representation of computational forms being adapted to the real envinronment. This work expresses a unique space that allows for an experience of the harmony between natural beauty and computational design.
